07.18 GOLF COURSE MANAGEMENT 89 CANADA Patricia Sloan, Class C, Sun Peaks, British Columbia VIETNAM Steven Halliwell, ISM, Da Nang IN MEMORIAM Gary D. Andrews, 76, died April 18, 2018. Mr. Andrews, a 43-year member of GCSAA, served in the U.S. Army. He became the golf course superintendent and general manager at Tyoga Country Club in Wellsboro, Pa., where his son, Dean, has followed him in the same roles. Mr. Andrews is survived by his wife, Sandy Andrews; son, Dean (Cheryl) Andrews; sisters, Linda (Lewis) Covert; and Debra (Daniel) Neal; granddaughter, Skylar Andrews (Corey Lewis); sisters-in-law, Delphia Andrews and Helen Andrews. John M. Easterday, 78, died Dec. 21, 2017. Mr. Easterday, a 45-year member of GCSAA, designed and built Wilkshire Golf Course in Bolivar, Ohio, which he owned for 47 years. Mr. Easterday is survived by his wife, Carole Easterday; daughters, Beth (Kevin) Futryk; and Holly (Mike) Adams; stepson, Gregory (Lois) Girard; six grand- children; and two great-grandchildren. John Farr, 83, died Jan. 21, 2018. Mr. Farr, a 33-year member of GCSAA, served in the U.S. Coast Guard for eight years before becoming hooked on golf. He was nearly a scratch golfer, recording two double eagles, and he taught golf in San Francisco at The Olympic Club and Lincoln Park Golf Course. He also launched a mini tour in the Bay Area for aspiring tour play- ers. He worked in the state of Washington, including Walla Walla Golf Club, before going to California, where he leased Three Rivers (Calif.) Golf Course, serving as its superintendent and golf professional. He later moved to Las Vegas, helping to renovate Showboat Casino's golf course. Mr. Farr studied agronomy for 29 years, which helped him resurrect Desert Rose Golf Course in Las Vegas. The local news- paper quoted golfer Jim Colbert, who said the improvements made at Desert Rose were "thanks to miracle worker John Farr."
