Reinders holds 21st annual conference The 21st annual Reinders Green Industry Conference was held in March in the Waukesha Expo Center in suburban Milwaukee. The show featured a festive Hawaiian atmosphere, which coincided with the tropical theme. More than 35 seminars were held, and six different educational tracts ran simultaneously to meet the needs of golf course superintendents, landscape contractors, lawn care operators, sports turf managers, equipment mechanics and irrigation contractors. Lane Tredway, Ph.D., of Syngenta launched the conference with his presentation, which focused on identifying and understanding naturally occurring plant defenses: Induced Systemic Resistance and Systemic Acquired Resistance. Joe Vargas, Ph.D., of Michigan State University examined new fungicide products, premixes and formulations on the market and analyzed the factors that infuence their performance. The Toro Co.'s Jim Sharp made a presentation on basic electrical knowledge and troubleshooting techniques for golf course irrigation systems. Other speakers included the University of Wisconsin's Chris Williamson, Ph.D., Foley United's Ron Blodgett, Agrium Advanced Technologies' Eric Miltner, Ph.D., and Quest Products' Bill Stringfellow. positions at Harbor Shores, a Jack Nicklaus Signature Design golf course in southwest Mighigan, and host of the 2014 Senior PGA Championship presented by KitchenAid. Ross Smith was appointed general manager and director of golf. Brianne Schmidke was named director of sales and communications. Lisa Morris accepted the food and beverage manager position. GOLF briefs Escalante Golf was selected by The Redstone Co's. as the new owner and operator of Redstone Golf Club (Tournament and Member courses), Shadow Hawk Golf Club, The Houstonian Golf & Country Club and BlackHorse Golf Club (North and South courses) in Houston. Redstone Golf Club is home of the PGA Tour's Shell Houston Open. Fry/Straka Global Golf Course Design announced two new projects in China; both were scheduled to open last month: Qizhong Garden Golf Club in Shanghai and Phoenix Hill Golf Club in Anji. Pacifc Links International announced it will acquire Dove Canyon Golf and Country Club in Orange County, Calif. Dove Canyon will be the 10th property added to the Canadianowned company's portfolio. Dove Canyon is the only Jack Nicklaus Signature Design in Orange County. The National Golf Club near Melbourne, Australia, became the frst Golf Environment Organization (GEO) Certifed facility in Australia. The certifcation means National Golf Club is recognized for its sustainability commitment and achievements. National Golf Club's sustainability efforts include recycled wastewater that is transferred to on-site storage for backup irrigation water, and a dedicated bush management team and native plant nursery using seed collected on site.
