TerraMax, a developer and distributor of natural microbial products designed to increase yields of agricultural crops and improve root structure and appearance of turf, announced key improvements to both its manufacturing facility and its product formulations, aimed at improving effciency and increasing results. TerraMax says it improved its formulation for products using the bacteria Azospirillum, which works as a nitrogen fxer, harvesting nitrogen from the air and soil and delivering it to the plant. The new formulation increases the survival level of the raw Azospirillum 100-fold, the company says. Also, the company's production facility in Bloomington, Minn., has been improved to increase the speed and effciency of packaging. PEOPLE news Barenbrug USA announced multiple appointments, including the job of chief executive offcer. He is James Schneider, who also is the president. Schneider, who was set to begin May 1, is leading Barenbrug USA's charge to further expand its market share in the U.S. and exports markets. Previously, Schneider was chief executive offcer at JB Instant Lawn. From 2000 to 2002, Schneider few airplanes for SkyWest Airlines. Also, Samantha Miller was hired as marketing coordinator and Chris Quinlan was named the new turf territory manager for the Midwest region. Miller is responsible for expanding and guiding the Barenbrug brand in the professional markets. Previously, she worked for Gluten Free RN, where she served as the marketing and executive assistant. Miller earned a bachelor's degree in business with an emphasis in marketing from Western Oregon University. Quinlan is responsible for professional turf sales and supporting distribution in North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin and Illinois. Quinlan previously served as senior territory manager for more than 12 years at Becker Underwood. Quinlan also has fve years of experience as an assistant golf course superintendent and spent fve years as distributor territory manager serving the horticulture business in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Tom Tokarski of Butler's Golf Course was named Superintendent of the Year for 2012 by Billy Casper Golf during the company's annual conference in March. Tokarski, a 17year GCSAA Class A superintendent, was chosen for exhibiting "above and beyond performance in all areas of turf and property management, staff development, guest experiences, busi- ness principles and other agronomic functions." Golf legend and company namesake Billy Casper presented the award to Tokarski. Butler's Golf Course, located in Buena Vista, Pa., has two 18-hole courses. Nicholas Strain joined QualiPro as Midwest area sales manager. Strain, based in McFarland, Wis., graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a bachelor's degree in agricultural business. He previously worked for John Deere in chemical sales, Allied Seeds and most recently Barenbrug USA, managing its Midwest territory. Xylem employees Paul Ruzicka, chief mechanical engineer, and James Roberts, chief product engineer, recently were honored by the Hydraulic Institute (HI) for their technical leadership and contributions in the creation of the new ANSI/HI Standards for pumps. Ruzicka was recognized for his work on two standards: Rotodynamic Pumps Guideline for NPSH Margin, ANSI/HI 9.6.1-2012; and Rotodynamic (Centrifugal and Vertical) Pumps — Guideline for Allowable Operating Region, ANSI/HI 9.6-32012.
