Pierce, EM, Seattle WISCONSIN Scott Hiebing, Class C, Kohler AUSTRIA Manuel Skacal, Class F, Villach CANADA Daniel Gelder, Class C, Caledon, Ontario IN MEMORIAM Gerald "Jerry" Barkley, 81, died May 1, 2019. Mr. Barkley, a 26-year member of GCSAA, built and maintained golf courses. In the 1970s, he worked for American Golf. Some of the courses he helped construct include Via Verde Country Club in San Dimas, Calif.; Meadowlark Golf Club in Huntington Beach, Calif.; Yorba Linda Country Club in Yorba Linda, Calif.; and Carbon Country Club in Helper, Utah. He served in the U.S. Air Force during both the Korean War and Vietnam War and was a radar observer in the Aleutian Islands. Mr. Barkley is survived by his children, Donald (Robin) Rogers, Lynda (Roy) Barnett, Denny Rogers, Julie (Gary) Green, and Gary (Brooke) Barkley; and sister, Blanche Thompson. Duane E. Holmes, 65, died June 3, 2019. Mr. Holmes, a 27-year member of GCSAA, followed in his father's footsteps and became a residential home contractor in Georgia. In 1989, he moved his family to St. Louis and worked as a partner with Sports and Fitness Inc., building and man- aging health clubs and, later, golf courses. Mr. Holmes is survived by his wife of 40 years, Susan Holmes; sons, Ryan Holmes and Blake Holmes; daughter-in-law, Jana Holmes; sister, Cheryl (Palmer) Ellard; and brother, Mel (Ellen) Holmes. Allan J. Kress, 84, died Jan. 28, 2019. Mr. Kress, a 61-year member of GCSAA, served in the military in the mid-1950s and earned the National Defense Service Medal, marksman. He worked for his father, Frank, who was a golf course superintendent at Tuckaway Country Club, which is a former site of the Greater Milwaukee Open. He eventually became the superintendent at Golf Bowl in Racine, Wis., and also pursued studies in turfgrass management at Purdue University. Later, he became the superintendent at River Oaks in Mequon, Wis., where he designed and built the third nine holes, making it a 27-hole facility. He also designed Rolling Meadows in Fond du Lac, Wis. In 1977, he accepted the superintendent job at Oneida Golf and Riding Club in Green Bay, Wis., and transformed the private club into a top-five course in the state. It hosted events that featured Wisconsin native and two-time U.S. Open champion Andy North. Mr. Kress was a low-single-digit handicap as a golfer, which came in handy when he played golf with legendary Green Bay Packers linebacker Ray Nitschke. "He
