44 GOLF COURSE MANAGEMENT 04.19 The 2019 Golf Industry Show in San Diego offered a little something for everyone, highlighted by robust attendance, world-class education and a jam-packed trade show floor. GCM staff e word "first" comes to mind when describing what went down in San Diego at the 2019 Golf Industry Show. e first family to receive the Old Tom Morris Award — the Powell family of East Canton, Ohio — was represented there. It also was the first time "In - side the Shop" was staged on the trade show floor, and Jason Shade has high hopes it won't be the last. "I really appreciate partnering up with Inside the Shop. It was a big hit from our standpoint," says Shade, director of sales operations for Waste2Water. "It really made sense from all the feedback I got from superintendents." Another major first: Rafael Barajas, CGCS, from Boca Grove Golf and Tennis Club in Boca Raton, Fla., became the first Hispanic president in the association's history. "Words cannot adequately convey how honored and humbled I am to be elected the 83rd president of GCSAA," Barajas says. "I will dedicate my full Show business San Diego 2019 CONNECT. DISCOVER. ELEVATE.
