Larson , Class C, Calgary, Alberta IN MEMORIAM Karl K. Anderson , 67, died May 3, 2018. Mr. Anderson, a 46-year member of GCSAA, earned a business degree from the University of Iowa before deciding to enroll in horticulture classes at the University of Missouri, which led to a prosperous career in the golf industry. He was the golf course superintendent at Appanoose Country Club in Centerville, Iowa, before eventually spending 32 years until 2016 as the golf course superintendent at Hickory Hills Country Club in Springfield, Mo., which was the home course for late major champion Payne Stewart. Mr. Anderson also was an excellent golfer; in 2008, he was inducted into the Ozarks Golf Hall of Fame, becoming the first superintendent inducted, but he also received recognition as a player. Anderson represented Springfield on the Horton Smith Cup team, a competition between teams from Springfield and Joplin, Mo., nine times. He aided the Ozark Turf Association's college scholarship program. Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife of 41 years, Patricia Anderson, who noted that her father was on the board that hired her husband at Appanoose CC. "Bucky" Leonard R. Hill Jr. , 65, died April 15, 2018. Mr. Hill, a 27-year member of GCSAA, earned a degree in golf course technology from Horry-Georgetown Technical College in Conway, S.C. For more than 40 years, Mr. Hill served as a golf course superintendent in North Carolina and South Carolina, including Oakwoods Country Club in Wilkesboro, N.C., and at The Palmetto Club in Columbia, S.C. An avid South Carolina Gamecocks fan, he loved blues music and once played his harmonica with the legendary blues musician Muddy Waters. Mr. Hill is survived by his wife, Sheryl Hill; sons, Aaron Hill and Alex Hill; daughter-in-law, Elena Bulanova; sister, Mary Lynn Hill Fortner; and many nieces and nephews. Robert J. Mucciarone , 91, died March 24, 2018. Mr. Mucciarone, a 52-year member of GCSAA, joined the U.S. Navy during World War II and was stationed on the destroyer USS Eugene A. Greene. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and the American Area Campaign medal before being honorably discharged in July 1946. Upon his return home, Mr. Mucciarone enrolled at the University of Massachusetts and earned an associate degree in turfgrass science and management. For more than 35 years, he was the golf course superin- tendent at Dedham (Mass.) Country and Polo & Club, and he also was a member of the New England GCSA. Mr. Mucciarone is survived by his wife, Pauline M. Muc- ciarone, whom he was married to for 67 years; daughter, Judith A. (Edward) Lovely; sons, Robert A. (Dorothy) Mucciarone; and Jeffrey S. Mucciarone and his companion, Simone Coutinho; twin brother, Norman (Blanche) Mucciarone; sister, Marie Dalo; grandchildren, Sean P. (Kristin) Lovely; Erin K. Lovely; great- grandchildren, Braden Lovely and Teagan Lovely; and many nieces and nephews.
